Joel Bain is a licensed professional counselor, mental health service provider in the state of Tennessee. Joel has been in the field of mental health for over 15 years. He has worked in a variety of treatment settings including inpatient, outpatient, and maintaining his own private practice.
Joel’s clinical approach is strongly rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with integrated elements from Solution Focused Therapy, Choice Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and Narrative Therapy. Joel believes in a here-and-now approach with his clients that is both client centered and interactive. Joel has extensive experience in helping clients with substance abuse, anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD. When helping clients process through their traumatic experiences, he utilizes a trauma focused psychotherapy approach that may include Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and elements from Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
Joel is an avid musician who loves playing the guitar and listening to many different types of music. To stay fit he practices tai chi and qigong, and in his spare time he enjoys walking, stretching, and using his Bowflex. Joel loves reading, meditating, anything that provides him with some comic relief, spending quality time with his family, and his two cats Tai and Chi. Self-care is very important to Joel, he states, “I’ve learned the importance of taking it easy.”
